Valor 5K Run and Kids Mile

The Valor 5K Run and Kids Mile was held on the OKV runway and taxiways the morning of May 22nd. This event honors all public safety and military personnel.

The proceeds went to the Frederick County Sheriffs Office Youth Camp. Military, fire and rescue, AirCare, and law enforcement personnel and equipment were on display on the terminal building ramp, and along the race course. Tom Leone flew a low pass down the runway in the T-51 Mustang before the start of the race. His speedy daughter, Samantha won her age group, was the second overall girl, and third overall athlete in the entire field 🙂 The T-51 low pass was followed by some pretty RV flying by Zeke Zechini and Jim Thill. Their planes were then placed on display. Some other members from EAA chapter 1031 also had their airplanes on display. Tim Boan had his Grumman Cheetah and Zeke Zechini had the L-2 Taylorcraft. John Ely in his RV-7A and Mary Ellen Hutchins in her C172, flew over from FRR. There were a number of other planes as well, including the STEM C172, and a couple of Stearmans. There were a lot of runners checking out the planes after the race. It was a fun event.
