Hagerstown, MD Fly-Out

After we had to cancel the fly-out last week due to high winds, we made it to Hagerstown on Saturday July 10th. The winds were light, the clouds high enough, the bumps were not too bad and even the temperatures were moderate (for the middle of July.)

John Ely (RV-7A) and Bob Metcalfe (Luscombe) flew out of Front Royal (KFRR), Gary and Mary Ann Schaffer (AeroTrek A-240) out of Lake Anna (7W4), Jeff Dunkle (Ercope 415-C) from New Market (8W2), Ralph and Laura Hoover (RV-7A) and Lucy Ooi (Champ L-16) came from Warrenton (HWY) and John Munroe and Tom Parry (RV-6), Charlie Chapin (Piper Archer), Tim and Linda Boan (Grumman Cheetah) and Juergen Nies with Mike Mercer (Piper Pacer) flew out of Winchester (OKV). 10 airplanes, 15 members and guests flew out of five different locations to meet for a nice lunch and some good airplane talking. I call that a successful fly-out.

Of course we couldn't have timed it any better with three of us arriving at Hagerstown (Class D airspace) at about the same time. Together with all the other traffic, the tower controller was handling, he had his work cut out for a little while, but he did a good job getting all of us on the ground safely while at the same time getting some of his other traffic off the ground as well.

I hope to see more of you at our next fly-out. Stay tuned.

Fly safe, Tailwinds and enjoy the ride!

Welcome to HGR
